Modern consumers are spoiled for choice, with a wide range of vehicles from many reputable automakers vying for their dollars. So why choose vehicles from GMC in 2024? These are just some of the reasons why so many people are loyal to this brand:
GMC has a wide range of hard-working vehicles for all tastes, lifestyles, and budgets. Researching and test-driving these vehicles can help consumers make the right choice for their needs. Here are some of the most popular GMC vehicles to consider:
The Canyon is GMC’s entry-level pickup, with an MSRP starting at $36,900. It’s no lightweight though. Its maximum towing capacity of 7,700 pounds leads the midsize truck segment. Its turbocharged 2.7-liter TurboMax inline-four engine generates 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, more force than its competitors. The Canyon comes standard with an eight-speed transmission and rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is an excellent option for anyone who enjoys off-roading. This truck is capable off the beaten track, especially the AT4X AEV Edition.
The Canyon has a rugged exterior, but it’s a sophisticated vehicle inside. A revamped digital gauge cluster and steering wheel have modernized the space for 2024. A large 11.3-inch infotainment screen is standard at all trim levels, allowing motorists to wirelessly connect to their devices using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay and use their vehicle as a Wi-Fi hotspot. A head-up display and premium Bose sound system are optional on lower trims but standard with the AT4X.
While it’s a serviceable commuting vehicle, the Canyon is best enjoyed on weekends off. GM’s Hitch View and Hitch Guidance system, standard at all Canyon trim levels, makes trailering a cinch even for novices. Off-road-focused models also come with all the extras to help people take on the trails, including off-road suspension packages, off-road tires, and advanced hill-descent control. Anyone looking for a vehicle that’s great fun and kind on the hip pocket will appreciate the GMC Canyon.
The Canyon is also a refined pickup, especially when you choose the high-end Denali Ultimate. With its heated and vented massaging front seats, 12-speaker Bose stereo system, and advanced driver-assistance features, GMC claims it’s the most luxurious pickup in its segment.
Those seeking a more spacious pickup may prefer the GMC Sierra 1500. The Canyon and Sierra 1500 are both midsize five-seaters, but the Sierra offers a few extra inches of space in the front and back. The Sierra’s generous amount of front shoulder and hip room and second-row leg and shoulder room are especially appreciated. The Sierra 1500’s cargo box is also around 8 inches longer and 13 inches wider, and this pickup gets an extra 21 cubic feet of cargo space.
The base model Sierra 1500 has the same TurboMax engine seen in the Canyon. It performs just as well here, producing identical horsepower and torque to its smaller sibling. A 5.3-liter EcoTec V-8 engine and a 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel engine are also available at various trim levels. Anyone with large boats or trailers will appreciate the Sierra 1500’s extra pulling power. With the diesel engine and four-wheel drive, this pickup can tow an eye-watering 13,300 pounds.
GMC has reinvented the Hummer, ensuring it’s not the gas guzzler it once was. Now an electric vehicle, it gets 59 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the highway with the standard tires. All-terrain tires sacrifice fuel efficiency a little, but most people won’t complain when they’re getting 55 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway. The massive Ultium battery makes this vehicle incredibly practical. Car & Driver testers traveled 250 miles on the highway on a single charge. It’s also quick to charge, with Car & Driver fast-charging the battery from 10% to 90% in just 128 minutes.
It may be a new, more sustainable Hummer, but GMC hasn’t forgotten what people love about these vehicles. It’s incredibly spacious, with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. It’s also loaded with tech, including an enormous 13.4-inch touch screen, a cool removable Infinity Roof, and an improved version of the hands-free Super Cruise system.
